This is the 12th Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to be presented to Rockingham County.
The Government Finance Officers Association has
recognized Rockingham County with their Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
for the 2024 fiscal year.
Each year, county
leadership drafts a budget to present to the Board of Commissioners for
approval. This process carries significant responsibility, as we are committed
to ensuring tax dollars are spent wisely while understanding the impact the
budget can have on both the citizens and employees of the county.
This award marks
the 12th time Rockingham County has been recognized, a monumental achievement
in local government. In addition to the award, the county received special
recognition in two categories: performance measures and budget process.
To receive the
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the county met nationally recognized
guidelines for an effective budget presentation. These guidelines assess how
well a budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and
communications device.
Judges of the award must determine that the
documents related to the budget are rated "proficient" in all four
categories, as well as in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those
categories. According to the Government Finance Officers Association, there are
more than 1,700 participants in the budget award program.
