Elections Board

The Rockingham County Board of Elections regularly meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am. During Election time, additional meetings are held in order to count Absentee Ballots and Provisional Ballots. The Board may also call a meeting at other times during the year as necessary.

Organization of the Board of Elections

Every county in the state of North Carolina has a County Board of Elections. The Board of Elections is a five member board which is appointed by the State Board of Elections. Appointments are based on nominations by the State Party Chairmen. Board members are appointed for two year terms and are appointed in June of odd-numbered years. No more than three members of the County Board of Elections can belong to the same political party.

The Board employs a Director and Staff to manage the office and conduct Elections. The Board is also responsible for appointing Precinct Officials, setting precinct lines, and conducting hearings on Election protests or challenges to the qualifications of Voters.
