Applying for a Permit to Carry a Concealed Handgun:
Please Read the following instructions carefully.
All Application Fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.
Concealed Handgun Permit Applications are accepted Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. (excluding holidays).
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office handles Concealed Carry Permits for Handguns. You must be a resident of Rockingham County for at least 30 days, 21 years of age, valid North Carolina identification with current and correct information listed on ID and complete a concealed handgun request application. Download and Print the application buy clicking on "PRINT APPLICATION PACKET" to the left, complete the application and bring it to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office Records Division. Processing the background checks for the permits can take up to 45 days FROM AFTER ALL OF THE APPLICANT'S MEDICAL RECORDS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED by the Sheriff's Office. These application are not currently accepted electronically. If you do not have the ability to print out this application via computer, a paper copy of the Concealed Carry Application Packet can be obtained at the Sheriff's Office in the Records Division at the Law Enforcement Center. Must have completed a firearms safety training course and provide certificate. The cost of concealed handgun permit is $95.00 for new applicants, $80.00 for a renewal (Cash, Credit or Debit Card accepted) . Permits processing times varies.
All applicants with prior military service are invited to submit a DD214 to speed up the investigation process.
ONLINE RENEWALS MUST UPLOAD THEIR CURRENT CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMIT AND THEIR CURRENT DRIVER'S LICENSE WHEN THEY APPLY ONLINE SO YOUR RENEWAL CAN BE ENTERED IN A TIMELY MANNER BEFORE YOU EXPIRE.

Please note - Although the application is available to complete and submit online, you will still need to make arrangements to come to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office in order to be fingerprinted and for the notarization of your application in order to begin processing it. You will be prompted to schedule a date and time to come in during the online application process.

Change of Address for Existing Permit Holders with Concealed Handgun Permits in Rockingham County:
There are 2 options:
Print off the form below and bring it in to the Sheriff's Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with your updated license reflecting your new address and current Concealed Handgun Permit and you will receive your new change of address at that time.
OR
Print and complete the form below then scan it along with a copy of your updated driver's license and current Concealed Handgun Permit and email it to [email protected] . Once completed, the change of address will be mailed to your new address and if the new address is outside or Rockingham County your file will be mailed to that county.

Out of County Permit Holders:
If your Concealed Handgun Permit is currently in another county within the state of North Carolina you will need to contact that county Sheriff to have the record updated and sent to our county.
Name Change for Existing Permit Holders:
If someone has a name change the will need to come to the Sheriff's Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to get a new card reflecting the change. The cost of the new card is $15.00.
Lost or Stolen CHP Card:
If someone has stolen or misplaced their CHP and needs a duplicate card produced, they will need to come to the Sheriff's Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and fill out a form which our staff will then notarize. The cost of the new card is $15.00.
