GSRS was formed to increase interest in and raise the standard of genealogical research and compilation by means of educational programs, workshops and the publication of genealogical material and answer genealogical queries received by the Rockingham and Stokes Counties Public Libraries.

The Madison/Mayodan Public Library offers numerous materials and resources to genealogists. Some of the materials available in this library include books, periodicals, private collections, microfilm, and obituaries. There is also an option to borrow genealogy books and microfilm from other libraries, such as the Shawnee Library System and the American Genealogical Lending Library.

This library, hosted at the State Library of North Carolina, has an extensive Genealogy Collection that contains family histories, published abstracts, periodicals, county histories, and reference materials.
