Rockingham County Recovers (RCR)
Our Mission:
To reduce misuse, overdose, and deaths in Rockingham County through community education, prevention, and collaboration.
Vision:
Originally formed in 2017, under the leadership of Felissa Ferrell, DHHS Director, this collective group was known as the Opioid Task Force. Breaking into various subcommittees, several projects were completed including the early formation of the Post Overdose Response Team, as one example. In late 2019, early 2020, Jeffrey Pruett was hired to facilitate the continuation of this important work.
Although starting off strong, the work became severely impacted during the height of the Covid era. Today, the work has gained momentum after the county received Opioid Settlement Funding through the Department of Justice in 2022 along with most other NC counties. Rockingham County is slated to receive just over $15M to be dispersed over the next 18 years to develop or enhance services and/or supports within the county to help fight the opioid crisis in the areas that we live and work.
The Rockingham County Board of Commissioners voted to approve Option A of the Opioid Settlement that provides a guidance for the intended work. This document frames the 12 High-Impact Abatement Strategies referenced in Exhibit A to the NC MOA of the Opioid Settlement.
The menu options provided to the left define the scope of the allowable work that will be discussed in our newly named collaborative group, Rockingham County Recovers.
This focus group largely consists of both community and governmental leadership, however, it is open to anyone with a desire to learn more about it and wants to join the conversation.
