The On-Site Wastewater
Program is responsible for permitting and overseeing the installation of
subsurface septic systems in the county. This program enforces North
Carolina’s laws and rules regarding sewage treatment and disposal. The
mission of the On-Site Wastewater Program is to protect and promote the
health of the community by ensuring that wastewater is properly disposed
of in order to prevent the spread of disease and pollution. This is
done by performing soil/site evaluations for septic system placement on
new lots or repairs, investigating complaints about failing systems, and
troubleshooting failing or malfunctioning systems.
