
Landfill Convenience Center
The Landfill Convenience Center is located just past the Scale House and is available to residents who bring their trash and recyclables to the Landfill for disposal. Trash is placed in the 40-yard containers on the left side of the Convenience Center and recyclables are placed to the right in one of the two stationary compactors.

Recyclables
Recyclables accepted are all kinds of paper (newspaper, office paper, datalogs, cereal boxes, paper bags and cardboard), glass containers, metal cans and all plastic containers. There is no need to separate the recyclables as they are all mixed together with our comingle process. Please do not put plastic bags or Styrofoam with the recyclables; they go in the trash. There are also designated areas for used oil/oil filters recycling and electronics recycling.
Materials Banned from Landfill Disposal:
- Liquids
- Yard Trash
- Oyster Shells
- Wet Paint (paint cans can be disposed IF paint has been mixed with sand, dirt, etc. making it a solid)

Recyclable Materials Banned from Landfill Disposal:
These items can be recycled at the Landfill Convenience Center during regular hours.

- Lead Acid Batteries
- Aluminum Cans
- Whole Tires
- Rigid Plastic
- White Goods (Appliances)
- Used Motor Oil
- Used Oil Filters
- Anti-freeze
- Beverage containers from ABC Permitted Facilities
- Wooden Pallets
- There are also designated areas for used oil/oil filters recycling and electronics recycling.

Requirements for Permit: Liner, Leachate collection, gas and groundwater monitoring both closure and post-closure
Swat A Litterbug
The N.C Department of Transportation’s Swat-A-Litterbug
Program encourages the public to report people who litter in an effort
to help make North Carolina roadways cleaner. The program provides every individual an opportunity to be an active participant in reducing litter on North Carolina roadways.
The public can report those who litter to NCDOT’s Litter Management Section by filling out an online form or calling NCDOT Customer Service Office at (877) 368-4968.
Report a Litterbug
Upon receipt of the reported information, NCDOT will mail the registered owner of the vehicle that was reported a formal notification,
signed by the N.C. State Highway Patrol, that informs them about the
littering offense, the penalties of littering and urges them to help
keep North Carolina clean.
Notes
Secure Your Load
The Landfill charges a $10 additional fee for any vehicle entering the Landfill with an uncovered/ unsecured load. This fee will be paid prior to leaving the scale on the way to the Convenience center/Landfill face.
This policy was enacted to help reduce blowing litter on Rockingham County roads and at the Landfill.
No Mulch Sales
Due to environmental regulations mulch sales are no longer permitted
at the Rockingham County Landfill.
Reduce Reuse Recycle
Due to the availability of Curbside Recycling in all locations of Rockingham County, the Landfill has discontinued its Mobile Recycling Program.
The Recycling Convenience Center at the Landfill is still operational Monday thru Saturday. If you are interested in Curbside Recycling please contact Waste Management at 336.573.1618.
