Fire Extinguisher Training and Safety

Knowledge is often equated to power and the knowledge of how to use a fire extinguisher during a fire is a powerful means of fire prevention. Knowing how to properly use an extinguisher can mean the difference in a small mess or a huge catastrophe. Fire extinguisher training is very important when it comes time to use one in the occurrence of an actual fire because a trained person that has used an extinguisher before will know the correct things to do. The acronym we use in the fire service is P.A.S.S or pull, aim, squeeze and sweep.

Here in Rockingham County our Fire Departments and the Fire Marshal’s Office team up in providing this training to the citizens. You can request fire extinguisher training on one of the department’s fire extinguisher fire simulators that allow citizens to extinguish a real flame during the practical part of the class. This course is performed under close supervision of our highly qualified fire service personnel who are there to show you all the right and wrong things to do during the class.
