Our school resource officers are certified law enforcement deputies that are permanently assigned to provide coverage to a school. The SRO is specifically trained to perform three roles: law enforcement officer; law-related counselor; and law-related education teacher.

The SRO performs “security” type duties and has not been placed in a school in response to a crisis situation, but rather acts as a comprehensive resource for his school.

Along with full time School Resource Officers at McMichael High, Rockingham High and Rockingham Middle Schools, the Sheriff's Office now has two Deputies that rotate between the seven Elementary and Charter Schools located in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The School Resource Officers also help in teaching programs such as G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training), Gun Safety with Eddie Eagle, "Stranger Danger" with McGruff the Crime Dog, Anti-Bullying and online safety to the students.
