Charter Spectrum will send mail and hang door tags to let you know when broadband internet has become available in your area.
The notifications will provide a phone number to call to establish service.
For address points that are
eligible in the phase of Connect Rockingham you will have access prior to
January 31st 2024.
Work will
be staring in the Spring of 2022 with some address points receiving access
prior to January 2024.
If your address is eligible
you do not need to do anything at this time.
When main line access is provided, Spectrum will let you know the
cost to extend beyond 2000 ft. This will be between Spectrum and the
homeowner.
There could be multiple reasons:
- Your address point may be receiving funding from a different grant handled by the Federal Government. Please see RDOF Auction Block. Click on RDOF Auction 904 Winning Bids and zoom into Rockingham County on the map.
- Your current internet service provider current reports you are receiving internet speeds greater than 25MB down and 3 MB up.These address points can be further researched to determine if they can be included in a later phase.
- The address point provided is not listed in the address list provided by Spectrum, but may be in the work area to received internet.Updates to the search feature will occur when these address points are discovered.
- Your address point was simply missed by maps that were used to determine project area. You may still be eligible it just requires further research.
- The address point is considered to have access to internet but the home is to far off the road for the vendor to provide at no costs. If internet is at the end of the driveway it is considered to be served and this grant cannot be used for assistance.
- You will need a modem and WiFi router to connect to the internet inside and around your home.
You may rent equipment from Charter Spectrum (monthly) or purchase your own.
- Depending on the size or construction of your home, you may benefit from a WiFi Extender to connect to WiFi on the opposite side of the house from the router.
- For a desktop computer in a fixed location, you may prefer to connect to the internet using an Ethernet Cable in addition to WiFi. Discuss the location of your PC with the installation tech that comes to your home.

Charter Spectrum will send letters or door tags to your area when broadband internet access has been established.
There is no need to call Charter Spectrum until you receive notification from them that broadband internet has become available at your address.
Charter Spectrum has acknowledged to us that, in fact, some of their representatives do knock on doors and offer to sign you up for services onsite. In addition to having a business card or other form of identification, representatives of Charter Spectrum should be readily identifiable by their apparel with the Charter Spectrum logo.
Sign costs are different at each Volunteer Fire Department. Usual costs are between $15-25 depending on the size and color options offered in your area. It's important to use the signs provided in your area to maintain the consistent "look" that helps first responders to find you.
Please consider making an additional donation to fund the specific needs at your local volunteer department while you are there.
In the event of a power outage, poor weather conditions or solar light not charged, the numbers will be visible using vehicle headlights.
Also, uniform numbering down your section of road assists emergency responders to "count up" from other locations. Address numbering is usually even numbered on one side of the road and odd numbered on the opposite side. Responders count "two, four, six, eight" as they search for your location. Your properly marked address makes you a great neighbor!
Mount the sign to a post at your entrance or driveway, within 5 feet of the roadway. The sign should be mounted 4-7 feet above ground level. The numbers should be visible from both directions. Additional house numbers can be placed on the house or business as desired.
Having your address posted on both your mailbox and also at the entrance to your driveway is very important. Mount your address high enough to avoid snow in the winter or weeds during the summer, as well as keeping the space around the sign clear of bushes, flowers or branches. 4-7 feet off the ground is ideal for numbers to be visible year round.
It's a best practice to send someone outside to flag down first responders when you are able. We cannot assume that we will be able to describe our location or run out to meet first responders in the event of an emergency if we are home alone.
Weather, visibility, traffic and other variable conditions can make it harder to locate a property. For example, heavy rain or snowfall can make even familiar locations change drastically in appearance.
Every second counts in an emergency! We want emergency personnel to locate you quickly.

No. People who are actively sick with COVID-19 should wait until they have recovered and can no longer spread the virus before getting their vaccine. This guidance also applies to people who get COVID-19 between their first and second dose of a two-dose vaccine. For two-dose vaccines, the second dose can be given up to 6 weeks after the first dose and still be very effective, so do not worry if you have to reschedule your appointment for a later date. Once you have recovered, it is safe to get vaccinated with any COVID-19 vaccine if you have been infected in the past.

There are a couple of key things for you to consider:
- Do
you have enough acreage to subdivide?
- Rockingham County uses a density average formula for dwelling units per acre.
- Use this Map to look up the zoning for your property and then go to Table 41.06-1 Dimensional Standards of the UDO located on Page 99 to look up the allowed density for your zoning district.
Each separate lot must also have legal access by
road frontage on a private road (up to 3 total lots accessed by the road),
public road, or individual easement. A local surveyor or the Planning
Department should be able to give you a final answer to this question.
Contact Planning and Zoning at 336-342-8130 x2 or email to
discuss your options.
- Refer
to the Table of Permitted Uses on Page 88 of the UDO to locate the
zoning districts that allow the uses you are proposing for your property.
- Applications
for rezoning are in Planning
and Zoning forms.
- Rezoning
requests are reviewed by the Planning Board and then approved by the Board
of County Commissioners.
Contact
Planning and Zoning at 336-342-8130 x2 or email to discuss
the most appropriate zoning district and required documents with your
application.

Property dimensions including setbacks are listed on Table 41.06-1
Dimensional Standards of the

Site Plan
Before you request a building permit for a new building, you must get approval for a Site Plan that shows how the property will be developed with buildings, parking, landscaping and signage. You may need to hire an architect or other professional to create a Site Plan for you.
For more complex or large areas of development, the TRC will review your plan before a Planner and Building Inspector review it. Smaller or less complex sites can submit a site plan at the same as the application for a building permit.
Contact Planning and Zoning at 336-342-8130 x2 or email to discuss the level of approval you will require.
Water and Wastewater
You must have a healthy water source and appropriate wastewater treatment before you can apply for a building permit. Permitting and Inspections processes applications and fees for both.
For questions about on-site well and septic systems contact the Environmental Health department at 336-342-8130 x3.
For questions about connecting to public water and/or sewer, contact Public Utilities at 336-342-8130 x4.
Building Permit
Building permits are processed though Permitting and Inspections.

for. Use this

up the zoning for your property and then refer to the Table of Permitted Uses
